Truth Be Told Tuesday #17 - Dirty Laundry

Hello friends! Welcome to another edition of Truth Be Told Tuesdays! If you're new here, this is a day for us to share our truths in an effort to support one another in our imperfections. Thanks to all of you that participate each week. It's so much fun when you all join in on the fun!

Truth Be Told, I don't always wash my stinky, sweaty clothes before wearing them again. Some of you may remember that I practice yoga twice a week (I've even confessed a little something about it before!). Sometimes, after class, I come home, take off my sweaty shirt, but don't put it in the dirty laundry! I figure, what's the point in washing it if I'm just going to wear it to go to yoga class again? It's not like I put it on to go to the grocery store or anything (because that would be really gross ;)

Ok friends (if you are still my friends after that confession), now it's your turn! Tell us your truth!

Truth Be Told Tuesday #16 - Oh, Poop!

Hello friends, welcome to another Truth be Told Tuesday where we share the truths in our lives in an effort to support one another in our imperfections. First of all, let me say I know I've been a little absent from the blog, but I've been taking advantage of the fact that my husband is home for the summer and I've been working. I know, exciting, huh? But hopefully I'll be back on track soon since school will be starting and my husband will be back to work.

And now for the real reason you stopped by...

Truth Be Told, I have the worst luck with my daughter pooping when I am completely unprepared and without a diaper. I told you about the time I had to let her go commando on our way home from the mall because she pooped and I did not have a spare diaper. Well it's happened to me 2 times since that incident! (Seriously, that was in May!)

We we were at a friend's house for a playdate and as we were getting ready to say our goodbyes, my daughter informs me, "Mommy, I have a poopie." No problem, I'll just get the spare diaper out of my purse and....oh shoot! No diaper. Oh yeah, I have a spare one in the car, let me just run out and get it...seriously? No diaper there, either? Fortunately, my friend had a size 2 diaper laying around that she let me have (my daughter wears a size 4!). But thankfully, it was enough to get us home. So you'd think I'd learn my lesson, right?

Nope!

The other day, my husband and I decided to take the kids for a walk to a park in our neighborhood. I pushed my daugher in the stroller and my son rode his bike. We made it to the park, the kids are playing, all is right with the world. Then my son comes over and says, "I have to go potty." There's no porta-potties around, but that's ok, he's a boy, so my husband takes him to a tree and he does his business. Once again, all is right with the world. About 5 minutes later, my son comes over and says, "uh oh, I have to go poop." Oh great! Now what do we do? He can't exactly poop behind the tree in the middle of the park. We decide to quickly load back up and walk home. As I'm getting ready to put my daughter in her stroller, she announces, "I have a poopie." OH GREAT! We're in the middle of the park, my son has to poop, my daughter has already pooped, and I don't have a diaper or wipes! So I did what any resourceful mom would do. I laid my daughter on the picnic table, wet some kleenex (thank goodness I had those!) with water from her sippy cup, wiped her bottom, threw away the poopie diaper, put her shorts back on and we high-tailed it home!

So now I'm going to start stashing diapers and wipes everywhere! The car, my purse, the stroller...I vow to never be caught in this predicament again!...Until it happens the next time ;)

Truth Be Told Tuesday #15 - That's not Toothpaste!

Happy Tuesday friends! I hope you all are having a great day. I'm off to help a girlfriend paint her kid's room, but I can't leave without sharing this week's Truth Be Told Tuesday with you. In case you're new (yay and welcome!) Tuesdays are a day for us to come together to share the truths in our lives in an attempt to support one another in our imperfections.

Truth Be Told, I once reached for the toothpaste in my drawer and accidentally pulled out some Vagisil (sorry if that's TMI, guys!). Fortunately, I discovered my mistake before actually applying said ointment to my toothbrush! Unfortunately, I can not say the same for a friend of mine who did the exact same thing with the exact same ointment!

Truth Be Told Tuesday #14 – TV as Babysitter

Happy Tuesday, friends! If you’re new to This Present Life (yay!), Tuesday is a day for us to share our “truths” with one another in an effort to support each other in our imperfections. After all, no one actually lives the perfect life they portray on their blog or on Facebook all of the time.

Truth Be Told, yesterday I plopped the kids in front of the TV so I could catch up on my blog reading. And this morning I put on a show for them so I could catch a few more zzzzzz’s! I’m not proud of using the TV as a babysitter, but it’s the one guaranteed method for preventing calls for “Mooooommmmmyyyy!”.

So there you have it, my “truth” for the week. Now it’s your turn! Share your truth with us in the comments section…and trust me, you’ll find that most of us can relate to your truth, so don’t be scared ;) It’s more fun when everyone plays along!

Truth Be Told Tuesday #13 - Hiding Out

I know that Tuesday is technically almost over, but I couldn't let the night end without sharing my truth this week. For those of you that are new to Truth Be Told Tuesday (TBTT), it's a day when we can all come together to share the truth of our lives...not the life we portray on our blog or on Facebook, etc... To catch up on past TBTT posts, go here.

Truth Be Told, I aimlessly drove around tonight after getting out of a meeting early in order to purposefully miss bedtime for the kiddos. That's right, I hid out to not have to put the kids down for bed (remember, no judgment on TBTT!). My husband had already planned to put them down, the kids had already anticipated that Daddy would be putting them down. And while I could've made it home in time to put them down, I chose to drive around killing time instead. Sometimes, it’s just nice to not have to be on Mommy duty.

So now it’s your turn, tell us your truth. And if you hide out from your kids sometimes, feel free share that as well (seriously, I can’t be the only mom who does this!).

Truth Be Told Tuesday #12 – Messy Kitchen

Welcome back to another fun edition of Truth Be Told Tuesday.  If you cruise the blogosphere and Facebook, it’s easy to think that everyone but you has it all together (clean house, beautifully decorated, perfectly behaved children, supermom-of-the-year).  But the truth is, that’s not the reality.  That is the reality that we all portray, but it’s not the truth.  So I have declared that Tuesdays are the one day of the week when we can tell it like it really is.  So feel free to join in on the fun!

Truth Be Told, this is what my kitchen looks like a lot of the time…

Dirty dishes in the sink, bibs that haven’t been washed…

Recycles overflowing (hey, at least it’s not the trash!)…rain boots still at the back door from a week (or two) ago…

I’ll do really good about keeping the kitchen clean for about 3 or 4 days.  But then I’ll be tired one night and I’ll skip it…and then the whole place goes to pot!

Truth Be Told Tuesday #11 – Dirty Knives

For those of you that are new to Truth Be Told Tuesday (TBTT), this is a day for us to tell the truth about our lives. Not the truth that we portray on our blogs or on Facebook, but the real nitty gritty. In confessing our truths, we are supporting each other in our imperfections. And besides all of that…it’s a lot of fun!

One of my biggest pet peeves in the house is using multiple knives throughout the day. If we’re not careful, we’ll each use a different knife for every meal of the day and by the end of the day, we’re out of knives. So now we try to use the same knife throughout the day.

Truth Be Told, the other day I prepared my kids’ lunch with a dirty knife. I looked over to the kitchen sink at lunch time, preparing to make some grilled cheese, and I couldn’t remember which was my knife that day. So I just grabbed the one I thought it was and dug in to the butter. But it made me laugh because I immediately thought of TTBT and knew I had to share this confession with you guys.

Truth Be Told Tuesdays #10 – Going Commando

No, not me, just to clarify (although that would be a good Truth Be Told Tuesday confession!).

Truth Be Told, I let my not-yet-potty-trained 2 year old go commando when I didn’t have a diaper to change her in to.

Last week I took my daughter to the mall to play after we dropped my son off at school. Right as we were getting ready to pack up and leave, she informed me that she had a “poopy.” I said, “ok, let’s go change it and then we’ll go home.” But as I reached in to my bag to pull out the diaper and wipes, there were none! YIKES! I tried to talk her in to sitting on it until we could get home (ew, yuck!), but she didn’t go for that idea (surprise). So I did the next most logical thing. I took her diaper off, wiped her bottom with some Handi-wipes I THANKFULLY had in my purse and let her go commando. I was sure to stress to her that she wasn’t wearing a diaper so she couldn’t “pee” until we got home (which thankfully is only about 10 minutes away). And thanks to all of the green lights I hit, we made it home without any accidents. But you better believe the car is now stocked with extra diapers!

The rest of the week we can pretend that we have it all together and that our house is spotless and our children are perfect and we are the model parent. But for today at least, let’s embrace our imperfections!

Truth Be Told Tuesday #9 - Unpacking

Welcome to another edition of Truth Be Told Tuesday (TTBT).  If you spend any amount of time reading blogs or catching up with friends on Facebook, it can seem like everyone else has it all together (perfect house, perfect kids, clean kitchen).  But we all know that is not the reality.  Truth Be Told Tuesdays is an opportunity for us to share the reality and support one another in our imperfections.

Truth Be Told, every time I look at my suitcase that I need to unpack…

I am reminded that I still haven’t unpacked my suitcase from my last trip several weeks ago (4 weeks to be exact!).

As my cousin Karen said, I’m suffering from a “vacation hangover” (love that phrase…I am totally stealing it!) and am finding it very difficult to get motivated.

Truth Be Told, I totally forgot it was Tuesday! So I'm sorry this post is a little late in the day. I'm still visiting my family out in Arizona, so I've been kind of absent from the blogging world. But I'm ready to have some fun sharing some truths with one another. Let's all support each other in our imperfections!

After several of you (and you know who you are ;) confessed last week that you wear your daytime tank to bed, I decided to confess a little undergarment secret of my own.

Truth Be Told, I wear the same 2 bras every week....and I only wash them about once every 2 weeks! Gross? Maybe. But I do make an exception and wash them when I've been extra sweaty ;)

Truth Be Told, I am so embarrassed to admit that I have tooted in yoga class. It might not be such a big deal except that the class consists of only about 5 people so it's not exactly like you can hide the fact that it was you! It used to happen often after having children (you can relate, right? please tell me you can relate...) and I had absolutely no control over it. I hope you all don't think less of me because of these little indiscretions ;)

Truth Be Told Tuesday #6 - Laundry

Hello all and welcome to another Truth Be Told Tuesday. If you're new here, Tuesday is our day to tell the "truth" about what our real life is like (not the ideal life we portray on our blog or Facebook). It's a way for us to support one another in our imperfections. I am really loving this series and I hope you all are too! A lot of you have mentioned your laundry woes on Truth Be Told Tuesday, so I thought I'd share some pictures of what my laundry life looks like.


Truth Be Told, I can never keep up with the laundry. I am pretty good about actually washing the clothes, but I can never seem to get them folded and put away. And I have piles of clothes everywhere. Let me show you the true laundry scene at my house. I took these pictures all on the same day.

My son's clothes. Clean and folded (thanks to my hubby!), but sitting out in the living room.

A pile of clothes in my son's room that I have to go through. Some are clean, some are not, some are hand-me-downs that I have to go through. The pj's on top are the jammies he wore the night before. Nice, huh?

My daughter's clothes are on the left. The are clean and folded (thanks again to my hubby!) but again, sitting in the living room. Next to my daughter's clothes is a load of (unfolded) sheets and towels.

This is the clean laundry basket that I get dressed out of every morning. (I almost moved the shoes out of the picture out of habit, but left 'em in because that's real life at my house!).

Here's a pile of clean (but undoubtedly now wrinkled) clothes sitting on the bench at the foot of my bed.

And of course a load of laundry in the washer...

...and the dryer.

So there you have it. That is 8 piles of clothes in various locations throughout my house, all on the same day (and I only took pictures of the piles of clothes. There are plenty of other stragglers strewn about in every room of the house). So if you're feeling bad about your laundry getting backed up, just remember what mine looks like and maybe it'll make you feel a little better ;)

As my semi-annual dentist appointment approaches, I figured I'd share a truth related to my teeth ☺

Truth Be Told, I start flossing my teeth about a week before my dentist appointment because I don't want the hygienist to think I don't floss everyday. After my appointment I swear I am going to keep up with it...but I never do.

I mean, seriously, I'm lucky I brush my teeth twice a day (usually). Flossing is a luxury I just don't have time for right now. Are you with me on this one?

Truth Be Told Tuesdays #2

After last week’s inaugural Truth Be Told Tuesday, I seriously have been looking so forward to our second installment. You all cracked me up and I honestly could relate to almost all of your “truths”. And it made me feel better to know that you’re not all perfect. Hopefully it did the same for you :)

So let’s support each other again this week by embracing our "flaws" and in doing so, realize that we are perfect in our imperfections! So here’s my second truth:

Truth be told, this is what my bedroom usually looks like…

The bed hasn’t been made in weeks, there are clothes Eh-very-where (most clean, some dirty…note my socks on the floor).

I find it easier just to live out of my clean laundry basket rather than actually put my clothes away (or at least that’s what I tell myself every morning when I have to dig for a pair of clean undies!).

I’m pretty sure I haven’t vacuumed this room since 2010 since I can’t even see the floor. At least the cat doesn’t seem to mind the mess!

This is a far cry from where our bedroom started after I expended my blood, sweat and tears to redo it. But unfortunately, this room seems to be the last room I put any energy in to. And I know “they” say your bedroom should be your sanctuary, but by the time I pick up and clean the rest of the house, this is the one room I feel I can let go ‘til next week. But then that becomes the next week, and the next week, and so on and so on.

Truth Be Told Tuesdays #1

Most of us follow multiple blogs, ranging in topics from parenting, to DIY, to decorating, to cooking. And if you read lots of blogs (guilty) you are probably used to seeing how everyone else's homes are immaculate; how other mothers seem to have infinite amounts of time and you can't find the time to take a shower (guilty). As we witness these glimpses into other people's lives, it's easy to get the impression that everyone else has it all together and you are the only poor soul who hasn't figured out how to balance a marriage, children, friendships, housekeeping, working, and the occasional craft/sewing/DIY project (guilty). Oh yeah, and don't forget to throw in some "me" time every now and then!

If you haven't already watched Becca's video over at Blue Cricket Design, she talks about this very issue. She is not perfect, her home is not spotless, there are cheerios on the floor and halfway through the video her little one strips off all of her clothes. That is real life. And I think it's important for all of us to realize that while we give "glimpses" into our lives, it's the life we want to publicly portray...maybe because it's the life we want.

I wish we could all just admit we're not perfect (mothers, wives, housekeepers, gardeners, decorators, etc...) because there is comfort in knowing you are not alone. So I decided that Tuesdays here at This Present Life will from here on out be known as "Truth Be Told Tuesdays." It will be our time to confess our "flaws" to one another. And in doing so, I hope that we can support each other in those "flaws" and in doing so be realistic about those flaws. Because let's face it, unless we have a magic wand that we can wave and poof! our house is clean, or the laundry is folded, or the kids have been bathed...none of us is perfect! So let's embrace our "flaws" and realize that we are perfect in our imperfections!

I'll go first.

I don't always make my son wash his hands after he goes to the bathroom. "Ewwww, gross!" you might be saying, but sometimes it's just easier to let it go. Besides, isn't exposure to some germs good for kids???

So here's how to play along. As most of you know, Linky Tools now costs $$ and since I don't make any $$ from my blog, I'm not willing to shell it out right now.
